Towson's Coby Tippett named CAA Rookie of the Week

Towson freshman defensive back Coby Tippett was today named CAA Football Rookie of the Week for his performance against William & Mary Saturday.

Tippett, of Sharon, Mass., and Cheshire Academy, made his first career start for the Tigers and had 14 tackles in the 26-14 road win. He also returned a punt 62 yards for a touchdown.

Of Tippett’s 14 tackles, 10 were solo. He averaged 24.7 yards on three punt returns and his TD was the first on a punt return by a Towson player since 2015.

Tippett’s parents are Andre and Rhonda Tippett. Andre Tippett played for the New England Patriots from 1982-1993 and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2008. Since his retirement, he has worked in the Patriots' front office and is the team's executive director of community affairs. Rhonda Tippett is a University of Maryland graduate.

Coby Tippett has played defensively in six games for Towson this season and has registered 23 tackles, 15 solo. He has returned eight punts for 125 yards and five kickoffs for 84 yards.
