Patriots coach Bill Belichick grew up in Annapolis — where his father, Steve, was an assistant coach for Navy — and regularly roots for the Midshipmen. Close friends with Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo, Belichick has occasionally visited the team or welcomed Navy’s coaching staff to see behind the curtain of the Patriots’ operation.

The Midshipmen will try to secure their 11th victory of the season at 3:45 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. The Liberty Bowl will be televised on ESPN.
