What's at stake: Morgan State did itself no favors, scheduling two explosive teams at the start. Following last week's 51-24 loss to Holy Cross, the Bears tackle a Marshall team that has won 10 games — and a postseason bowl — for three straight years. A victory would lift Morgan's stock as it prepares for play in the MEAC; a loss would leave the Bears 0-2 for the fourth consecutive season. Unforced errors were their curse last week: twice, Morgan was flagged for having 12 men on the field, and it would have been three if not for a timeout. How Marshall's first-week bye plays out is a toss-up.

Running back Orlando Johnson hobbled from the Morgan State locker room wearing a grey T-shirt with "BELIEVE" — the Bears' mantra for 2016 — printed on the back.

Key matchup: Quarterback Chase Litton passed for 2,605 yards and 23 touchdowns as a freshman last year for the Thundering Herd (Conference USA), and he'll attack a Morgan defense that surrendered nearly 500 yards last week. Bright spots for the Bears are linebacker Damare Whitaker (9 tackles) and safety Darius Johnson (St. Paul's), who had seven tackles and an interception.

Player to watch: Shawn Petty, Marshall linebacker and a 2014 transfer from Maryland, where he played linebacker and quarterback for the Terps.
