Series: Holy Cross leads, 1-0
What's at stake: After a turbulent offseason in which its head coach (Lee Hull) left to become the Indianapolis Colts wide receivers coach and the program was banned from 2016 postseason play for academic failures, Morgan State is chafing to move ahead. But will it happen against Holy Cross, alma mater of Bears interim coach Fred Farrier? The Crusaders (6-5, 3-3 Patriot League in 2015) boast a prolific quarterback, Peter Pujals, who passed for 3,195 yards and 28 touchdowns last year, and wide receiver Brendan Flaherty, a second-team All American who caught 106 passes for 1,082 yards and 12 touchdowns last season. Morgan State returns nine offensive starters, but not at quarterback. That job goes to Chris Andrews, a graduate student who played off and on as an undergrad at Wagner while retaining one year of eligibility.
Key matchup: Dewayne Cameron (6 feet 4, 255 pounds), an All-Patriot League defensive end, had seven sacks last year for the Crusaders and comes into the game loaded for Bear — quarterback Andrews, that is.
Player to watch: Two years ago, Morgan State running back Herb Walker, Jr. trampled Holy Cross for a school-record 271 yards rushing and two touchdowns in a 29-26 defeat as the Bears lost on the game's last play. Academically ineligible last year, Walker returns hoping to replicate a sophomore season in which he ran for 1,408 yards (a Morgan State record) and scored 15 touchdowns.
