There are a lot of bowl games. Some might even say too many.
There will be 41 this season, starting Saturday with the Celebration Bowl in Atlanta and ending Jan. 8 with the College Football Playoff National Championship in the same city.
Maryland won’t be bowling after finishing 4-8, but Navy (6-6) will be making its sixth consecutive bowl game appearance. Predictably, the Midshipmen’s meeting with Virginia in the Military Bowl features the most Baltimore-area players with nine. But you might be surprised to learn that the Heart of Dallas Bowl between West Virginia and Utah features seven players with local ties, while the Penn State-Washington matchup in the Fiesta Bowl has five.
If you care only about the College Football Playoff, there’s something for you, too. Each of the four semifinalists has a player from the area.
