CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Three North Carolina football players and a fourth who has transferred were involved in a campus wreck in May but not cited for speeding by an officer who had worked on-field game security.
Herman Davidson was cited for driving without a license after swerving to miss an oncoming car and flipping a vehicle owned by senior linebacker Ebele Okakpu's father. UNC police Sgt. S.R. Smith revised his report to state Davidson was driving at 45 mph instead of the posted limit of 25 due to the "severity of the collision."
UNC police spokesman Randy Young said Smith resigned in July but wouldn't discuss details. Smith couldn't be reached for comment.
Junior linebacker Dion Guy suffered minor scrapes. Okakpu and senior offensive lineman Carl Gaskins were also in the vehicle.
