For the first six games, Morgan State sent out the same offensive line. But in the past four, “The Mob” – as the front five is called – featured different faces at different places.
Freshman right tackle Matthew Thompson, a Perry Hall resident and graduate, sat out all four games with an undisclosed injury. He returned for the team’s 45-0 loss to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foe North Carolina A&T on Saturday, but started at left guard because redshirt freshman Dominique Woods was recovering from a concussion.
Woods did play in the second half against the Aggies because freshman right tackle Ehijele Ubuane was dehydrated, but Hull said Woods didn’t start for precautionary reasons.
“He didn’t practice all week,” Hull said Tuesday. “So he didn’t start. … He’ll be back.”
Ubuane – a Baltimore resident and St. Frances graduate who goes by the nickname “A.J.” – started all four games in Thompson’s absence and held up admirably, according to Hull.
“He was our starter,” Hull said. “He played well. We have Matt Thompson and A.J. and both are true freshmen on the offensive line that have been starting for us all year long. Matt had a little injury and didn’t play in two previous games, and A.J. started those two games.
"So, he’s coming along great for a true freshman. Being out there and playing at right tackle, he’s done a great job.”
