A group of five Carroll countians helped the Washington College women's lacrosse team put together a memorable season.
The Shorewomen went 11-5, reached the Centennial Conference tournament for the fourth straight season and finished 17th in the IWLCA Division III poll.
Freshman midfielder Alli Dudley (Francis Scott Key) was critical to that success in her first year with the team.
She started all 16 games and led the Shorewomen with 21 assists while finishing sixth with 15 goals and fifth with 36 points. Dudley was third on the squad with 27 draw controls, fourth with 22 ground balls and tied for fifth with 11 caused turnovers.
Dudley tied the program record for assists in a game with seven in a March 7 win over Susquehanna.
She was joined on the squad by sophomore defender Rachel Kurtz (Sykesville/McDonogh), senior midfielder Kathleen Maleski (South Carroll), freshman goalkeeper Allison Remenapp (Century), and freshman goalkeeper Megan Voss (Finksburg/Garrison Forest).
Maleski started all 16 games, recording three points, 24 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers.
Remenapp played 15 games in goal, starting 13. She posted a 9.83 goals-against average and a .484 save percentage.
Kurtz picked up four ground balls in seven games. Voss recorded an 8.26 goals-against average and .438 save percentage in three games off the bench.
ALL-ECAC I: Junior Caroline Brehm of the McDaniel College softball team was recently named to the All-Eastern College Athletic Conference South All-Star second team.
Brehm, a right-handed pitcher, was previously named to the All-Centennial Conference first team and earned her third straight Centennial Pitcher of the Year honors.
Brehm finished 26-13 in the circle with one save. She had a 1.41 ERA over her 267 1-3 innings pitched. She led all of Division III with 396 strikeouts against just 89 walks. She allowed just 167 hits and threw 38 complete games with 13 shutouts.
She recorded 21 double-digit strikeout performances this season, helping the Green Terror finish 29-17, reach the conference tournament and the championship game of the ECAC tournament.
ALL-ECAC II: Junior attack Danielle Entrot of the McDaniel women's lacrosse team, was recently named to the All- ECAC Mid-Atlantic All-Star second team.
Entrot also claimed first-team All-Centennial and second-team All-Metro region honors. She led the team with a single-season program-record 100 points, ranking second in both goals (61) and assists (39).
Her points total led the league while her goals total ranked third. With 247 career points, she already ranks second all-time while her 176 career goals is third all-time. She ranked second on the team with 64 draw controls while adding 29 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers. The Green Terror finished 11-9.
CAPTAIN SHOREMEN: Washington College men's soccer coach Roy Dunshee has named midfielder Matt Wilfong (North Carroll) and defender Zach Stocksdale (North Carroll) as the team captains for the 2014 season. Both will be serving as captains for the first time. Both will be seniors in the fall.
Wilfong, a two-time member of the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll and the 2013 Team Most Valuable Player, was tied for second on the team with 10 points on four goals and two assists last season. He tied for second on the squad in both goals and assists. In 45 career matches, he has eight goals and five assists for 21 points.
Stocksdale, also a two-time member of the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll, played in 16 matches last fall. Stocksdale, who helped the Shoremen post four shutouts in 2013, was named the 2013 Team Most Improved Player. He was also the team's representative on the 2013 Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship Team.
Stocksdale has played in 41 career matches for the Shoremen since his arrival to Washington in 2011.
