Bayhawks acquire Megill for Sebastiani, draft pick
The Chesapeake Bayhawks acquired first-year defenseman Brian Megill in a trade with the Denver Outlaws for midfielder Dom Sebastiani and the eighth pick in the 2014 Major League Lacrosse college draft on Monday. Denver drafted Megill seventh overall this year, and the rookie picked up 26 ground balls in nine games. A USILA second-team All-American at Syracuse, he ranked fifth in the NCAA in individual caused turnovers per game.

Terps' Diggs honored after career game
Maryland sophomore wide receiver Stefon Diggs was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Receiver of the Week on Monday after posting a career-high 179 receiving yards, including a 41-yard touchdown, in the Terps' 47-10 home victory against Old Dominion on Saturday. Diggs' 179 yards were the most by a Maryland receiver since current Ravens wideout Torrey Smith had 224 against North Carolina State on Nov. 27, 2010.

Men's soccer: UMBC senior forward Pete Caringi III (Calvert Hall) was named College Soccer News' National Player of the Week. Caringi, who also Monday was named America East Conference Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, has eight goals this season and ranks seventh on UMBC's all-time list. ... Loyola Maryland sophomore forward Larry Ndjock was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week after scoring four goals, including two game-winners, and becoming the first Greyhound to record a hat trick since Glenn Leitch in 2010. ... Johns Hopkins junior goalie Nick Cerrone was named Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Women's soccer: McDaniel freshman goalkeeper Haley Jacobs (North Harford) was the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week. ... Johns Hopkins junior Hannah Kronick was the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Field hockey: Frostburg State senior forward Becky Randel (Long Reach) was Capital Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Women's volleyball: UMES freshman Petra Jerabkova was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week.
McFadden to compete in Chicago Marathon
The Bank of America Chicago Marathon announced that Paralympic gold medalist and defending champion Tatyana McFadden (Atholton) headlines the 36th annual race Oct. 13. McFadden is vying for her third Chicago title in a row and fourth in the past five years.
Sports facilities: FIELDS Inc., a sports general contractor that builds sports fields, has formed a corporate alliance with Hall of Famer and former Oriole Cal Ripken, Jr. to create Ripken Sports, a company that will operate in designing and building sports complexes around the country. As part of the new company's capabilities, Ripken Sports will offer feasibility studies, design and project management for sports other than baseball, including football, soccer, rugby, track, field hockey, lacrosse, cricket, polo and tennis.
National Women's Soccer League: The Washington Spirit selected defender Nikki Marshall during the waiver draft. Marshall, 25, who started all 22 games and had one assist in 1,871 minutes for during the regular season for the 2013 champion Portland Thorns, was the only player chosen from the 11 available. The Spirit also waived Lindsey Taylor and Holly King.
Triathlon: Harry Goudy, 30, of Severna Park placed second in the Events DC Nation's Triathlon on Sunday in Washington, finishing in 2 hours, 2 minutes, 49 seconds. Gregory Dierksen, 27 of Brookline, Mass., won in 2:02:44.
Minor league basketball: The Bay Area Shuckers of the American Professional Basketball League announced the signing of Cody White.
