Men's and women's college lacrosse players of the week

MEN

Ryan Compitello, Hartford

Junior, Hauppauge, N.Y., attackman

The program earned its first appearance in the NCAA tournament courtesy of Compitello. He scored three goals and added two assists in the Hawks' 11-10 upset of then-No. 11 Stony Brook. Compitello's third goal of the contest occurred with one second left in the fourth quarter, as he corralled an errant shot by sophomore Rory Nunamacher and stuffed a high shot over Seawolves senior goalie Rob Camposa. Compitello leads Hartford in assists (27) and ranks second in points (49).

WOMEN

Kerry Stoothoff, Loyola

Junior, Blue Point, N.Y., goalie

Named the Most Outstanding Player in the Big East tournament, Stoothoff made critical saves early in the second half of the title game against Notre Dame to help rally from a one-goal halftime deficit to a 12-10 victory that assured the Greyhounds a home game in the NCAA tournament. She finished with 10 saves — six in the second half. She also had seven saves in the 12-11 semifinal win over Syracuse. Stoothoff has an 8.78 goals against average and a .479 save percentage — both second in the Big East.
