Lacrosse games to watch

MEN

No. 1 Syracuse (6-0) at No. 17 Villanova (7-1)

Saturday, 7 p.m.

About Syracuse: The Orange and Notre Dame are the lone remaining unbeaten teams, but the former has been extended to overtime twice in the past three contests. Senior defenseman John Lade, who held Johns Hopkins senior attackman Chris Boland scoreless on 0-for-3 shooting and forced five turnovers last Saturday, might draw Wildcats junior attackman Kevin Cunningham (20 goals, 13 assists).

About Villanova: Villanova is riding high after upending then-No. 11 Princeton on March 15, and the school has been promoting this Big East showdown with Syracuse for some time. Orange senior long-stick midfielder Joel White has been the model for that position, but Wildcats senior Brian Karalunas leads Division I in caused turnovers per game (4.6).

Outlook: Syracuse has not lost to Villanova in three meetings. But the Wildcats could enhance their resume for an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament with an upset of the Orange.

WOMEN

No. 3 Duke (8-1) at No. 9 Virginia (5-3)

Saturday, 1 p.m.

About Duke: The Blue Devils (1-1 in the ACC) have won five in a row, their only setback being an 18-11 loss at Maryland. Midfielder Emma Hamm leads in goals (27) and draw controls (39). Goalie Mollie Mackler has not allowed more than eight goals against any of Duke's past three opponents.

About Virginia: The Cavaliers, whose game against James Madison was postponed by lightning Wednesday, have played three straight one-goal games and won two. The loss, to North Carolina, dropped them to 0-2 in the ACC. Julie Gardner leads a balanced attack with 18 goals and 14 assists.

Outlook: Six of the past nine games have been decided by one goal, with the Cavaliers winning last season's only meeting, 8-7. Virginia, with an 18-7 advantage in the series, has an edge in nearly every statistical category, but that means little in a rivalry such as this.
