MEN
Tim Desko, Syracuse
Junior, Syracuse, N.Y., attackman
The son of head coach John Desko, Tim Desko was instrumental in the top-ranked Orange's 12-10 win against No. 2 Virginia on Friday night. Desko scored a game- and career-high five goals, including three of the team's five tallies in the second half. His performance helped preserve Syracuse's unblemished 3-0 record and also gave the program its first regular-season victory over the Cavaliers since 2004. Desko was named the Big East Offensive Player of the Week.
WOMEN
Brittany Dipper, Maryland
Junior, Clarksboro N.J., goalie
In stifling a Virginia attack that had been averaging 17.3 goals and had scored more than 20 in its previous two games, Dipper led the No. 1 Terrapins to an 18-6 road win over the then-No. 10 Cavaliers last week. She had seven saves and two ground balls in that game, and has allowed just 6.07 goals per game for the Terrapins (6-0). Dipper, who has played in all but one game since her freshman year, was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Tournament team each of the past two years.
