No. 3 Maryland (0-0)
Coming up: vs. Detroit Mercy, Saturday, 1 p.m.
Comment: The Terps haven't dropped a season opener since losing to Duke, 9-5, in 1993. It will be interesting to see if Maryland looks rusty against a Titans squad that lost its season opener, 9-6, against Bellarmine last Saturday.
No. 11 Johns Hopkins (0-0)
Coming up: at No. 20 Towson, Saturday, 12 p.m.; at No. 19 Delaware, Tuesday, 6 p.m.
Comment: The Blue Jays haven't lost a season opener in eight of the past nine years. Outside of senior attackmen Chris Boland and Kyle Wharton — who might be sidelined by injury — can the other offensive players manufacture goals?
No. 13 Loyola (0-0)
Coming up: vs. Navy, Saturday, 2 p.m., Ridley Athletic Complex.
Comment: The Greyhounds' 8-7 overtime win against the Midshipmen a year ago snapped a five-year losing streak in season openers. An offense that relied on attackmen Cooper MacDonnell and Collin Finnerty last spring must find other options.
No. 20 Towson (0-0)
Coming up: vs. No. 11 Johns Hopkins, Saturday, 12 p.m., Johnny Unitas Stadium.
Comment: The Tigers have dropped 15 straight meetings to the Blue Jays — a trend that gnaws on the players and coaches. If senior goalie Travis Love is sidelined by illness, all eyes will be on redshirt sophomore Andrew Wascavage.
Navy (1-0)
Coming up: at Loyola, Saturday, 2 p.m.
Comment: The Midshipmen got eight goals and four assists from freshmen in their 14-8 victory over the Virginia Military Institute last Saturday. Similar production would be an asset against the Greyhounds.
Mount St. Mary's (0-0)
Coming up: at No. 2 Virginia, Tuesday, 4 p.m.
Comment: The Mountaineers have lost all seven meetings with the Cavaliers, but these types of games can solidify a squad's resolve. The starting defense of seniors Andrew Miller, Justin Schmidt and Kevin Downs must challenge a Virginia offense that ranked third in Division I last spring.
UMBC (0-0)
Coming up: at Presbyterian, Saturday, 12 p.m.
Comment: The Retrievers will see how far their youth has progressed in their season opener. The Blue Hose was routed by Delaware, 19-4, last Saturday, but they played just 15 players because of injuries.
