Kemba Walker had 24 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists for his first career triple double, leading No. 7 Connecticut to a 94-61 victory over UMBC on Friday night.
The junior guard also became the 45th Connecticut player to score 1,000 career points, reaching the milestone in his 77th game. The victory was coach Jim Calhoun's 830th, moving him into a tie with former Mount St. Mary's coach Jim Phelan for sixth place on the career list.
Freshman Jeremy Lamb added 13 points for the Huskies (7-0), Alex Oriakhi, Niels Giffey and Baltimore native Roscoe Smith (Walbrook) each had 11 and Jamal Coombs-McDaniel finished with 10. UConn improved to 4-0 against America East teams this season, having already beaten Stony Brook, Vermont and New Hampshire.
Travis King led UMBC (0-7) with 14 points, and Chris De La Rosa added 13.
Bowie State 82, Mansfield 81: Junior Ali Djim tipped in one of the Bobcat's 20 missed free throws with 10.5 seconds remaining in overtime to lift the Bulldogs to a home victory over the Mountaineers (4-1) as Bowie State (5-0) remains undefeated.
Mary Washington 85, Frostburg State 73: Matt Boward scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Eagles (5-2, 3-0 Capital Athletic Conference) to a victory over the Bobcats (5-2, 1-1 CAC).
E.J. Willis picked up 16 points and six rebounds, while Walt Smith added 11 points of his own.
Brian Anderson was Frostburg's leading scorer with 20 points. Jamal Bracken just missed a double double with 11 points and 9 rebounds.
Salisbury 68, Anna Maria 40: Mike Maczko and David Pearman both had double doubles to lead the host Sea Gulls (3-3) to a convincing defeat of the Amcats (2-4) in the first round of the Optimist Classic.
Maczko had 13 points and 14 rebounds, while Pearman had 19 points and 10 rebounds. Chris McGrew scored 10 points and nine rebounds.
Loyola 57, Navy 54: Miriam McKenzie scored 16 points to lead the visiting Greyhounds (2-5) past the Mids (4-3).
Navy was cold at the start shooting 26 percent from the field, making only seven shots in the first half.
Mary Washington 51, Frostburg State 46: Katie Wimmer scored 19 points while Jenna McRae added 18 to lift the visiting Eagles (4-2, 2-0 Capital Athletic Conference) past the Bobcats (2-4, 0-2 CAC).
Although Frostburg shot 59.1 percent from the field in the first half, it made only four baskets in the second half, shooting only 16 percent.
The Bobcats' Mindy Sharp scored a game high 20 points and had 11 rebounds to record the double double.
Southern Virginia 67, Salisbury 63: Mina Romito, Jasmin Johnson and Jenna Aldridge all scored 13 points to lead the visiting Knights (4-7) to victory over the Sea Gulls (3-3) in the opening round of the Optimist Classic.
Salisbury's Glen Charlton led all scorers with 18 points in 34 minutes of play.
