Loyola can't complete comeback vs. Drexel, loses 75-72

Despite a team-high 21 points from Jamal Barney, the Loyola men's basketball team could not overcome an 18-point deficit Friday. Drexel beat the Greyhounds, 75-72, in the season opener for both teams at Reitz Arena.

Brian Rudolph made a layup and a 3-pointer within five seconds of each other to pull Loyola within a pair, 74-72, but Drexel's Chris Fouch made one of two free throws with one second remaining.

Fouch led all scorers with 23.

Oklahoma 77, Coppin State 57: Mandrew Fitzgerald scored a game-high 22 points to power the host Sooners (1-0) past the Eagles (0-1).

Michael Harper scored 18 points and Mike Simpson added 11 for Coppin State.

Miami ( Ohio) 60, Towson 57: The visiting Tigers (0-1) came within two points in the final two minutes, but could get no closer.

Isaiah Philmore (John Carroll) led Towson with 12 points and University of Maryland transfer Braxton Dupree had 11.

Allen Roberts had a game-high 20 points for Miami-Ohio.

Tulane 91, UMES 62: After trailing by seven at the half, the host Hawks (0-1) got outscored 54-32 in the second half.

The Green Wave (1-0) had five double-digit scorers led by Kendall Timmons with 24. Kevin White had 17 for UMES.

Tulane took a 20-point lead seven minutes into the second half and held the Hawks to 11.

Women

Coppin State 75, Towson 68: Simona Petronyte had a game-high 23 points, including seven three-pointers, in a losing effort for the host Tigers (0-1).

Towson opened the game with an 8-0 run, but a 13-5 run by the Eagles (1-0) in the closing five minutes of the first half gave Coppin the lead for good.

Eagles Leola Spotwood and Crystal Whittington each had 17 points.

Delaware 59, UMBC 44: Elena Delle Donne scored 36 points to lead the host Blue Hens (1-0).
