NCAA probe of Tar Heels extends to South Carolina

South Carolina tight end Weslye Saunders spoke with NCAA investigators in connection with a probe of the North Carolina football program, according to a report Sunday on ESPN.com.

North Carolina athletic director Dick Baddour said Thursday the NCAA is investigating a sports program at the school regarding possible rules violations.

ESPN reported that Saunders was interviewed about time he spent with North Carolina defensive end Marvin Austin, a good friend, when the two were in Florida this spring and who paid for hotel rooms and travel expenses.

•Marshall University defensive back DeQuan Bembry has been kicked off the school's football team, some three months after his arrest outside a West Virginia bar.

Coach Doc Holliday announced Bembry's dismissal in a news release.

Bembry and fellow defensive back T.J. Drakeford had been arrested on misdemeanor charges in April as police cleared several Huntington bars because of fights.
