Mount St. Mary's loses to Quinnipiac despite Goode's 24

Jeremy Goode scored 24 points, including Mount St. Mary's final 14 of the game, but host Quinnipiac (7-6, 2-1 Northeast Conference) escaped with a 64-63 win over the Mount (3-11, 0-3 NEC). Goode hit four 3-pointers over the final four minutes, including one at the buzzer.

More basketball: Shanae Baker-Brice scored 19 points and added six rebounds to lead the Towson women (8-5, 2-0 Colonial Athletic Association) to a 66-58 victory over host Hofstra (7-7, 0-2). ... Senior guard Roland Dunston joined UMES as a walk-on. Junior guard Jamal Edwards left the team for personal reasons.

College football: Navy released its 2010 schedule, which includes a previously announced game Sept. 4 against Maryland at M&T Bank Stadium. The schedule includes five games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. (See Scoreboard on this page)

Curling: San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis (Maryland), who last Sunday tied the NFL record for touchdowns by a tight end with 13, will be an honorary captain for the U.S. men's team next month at the Vancouver Olympics.

Swimming: Michael Phelps of Fells Point, Katie Hoff of Towson and Elizabeth Pelton of Baltimore will compete in the short-course Southern California Grand Prix next Friday through Jan. 18 at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach. The event is the second stop of the 2009-10 USA Swimming Grand Prix Series.
