Koshwal eyes Tuesday return

Baltimore Sun

Just in time to perhaps see some playing time before Big East play, DePaul center Mac Koshwal has been cleared for practice after missing the last eight games with a foot injury, coach Jerry Wainwright said Sunday night.

Barring complications after a full-go workout Monday, the 6-foot-10 junior will play Tuesday at Florida Gulf Coast to knock off rust before the Dec. 28 conference opener at Pittsburgh.

"He's a kid that's always had a great motor," Wainwright said. "But I'd certainly like to have him swim a couple lengths before he's racing against Michael Phelps."

Koshwal averaged 15 points and 13 rebounds in three games before the injury. The Blue Demons (7-4) were 5-3 in his absence.

Loyola 79, SIU-Edwardsville 61: Terrance Hill scored 23 points and Walt Gibler 22, and the Ramblers (8-2) pulled away in the second half to defeat the host Cougars (2-9).

Loyola led 36-29 at halftime, and the margin remained seven with 13 minutes left when the Ramblers went on a 14-0 run to put the game out of reach. Marcus Thomas scored seven of his 12 points in that stretch.

Mark Yelovich led the Cougars with 18 points.

SIU 67, San Francisco 66: Kevin Dillard's layup with 12.2 seconds remaining was the difference as the Salukis (7-2) defeated the Dons (3-9) at the Holiday Hoops Classic in Las Vegas.

Iowa State 87, Bradley 68: Marquis Gilstrap scored a season-high 25 points as the Cyclones (8-3) handed the visiting Braves (5-5) their third straight loss. Andrew Warren led Bradley with 16 points.

Layup: Iowa suspended sophomore guard Anthony Tucker - the Hawkeyes' No. 2 scorer with 11.9 points per game - indefinitely after Iowa City Police said he was arrested for public intoxication.
