State basketball roundup (Feb. 6): Loyola Maryland falls to Bucknell; Hartford men stop UMBC's streak

Men

Bucknell 84, Loyola Maryland 72: The host Greyhounds (8-16, 4-7 Patriot League) lost their third straight. The Bison improved to 15-8, 9-2. Andrew Kostecka finished with a game-high 29 points for Loyola. Kimbal Mackenzie (John Carroll) had 24 points and Nate Sestina had 22 points for Bucknell.

Hartford 70, UMBC 61: J.R. Lynch scored 20 of his 28 points in the second half and the visiting Hawks (12-12, 5-4 America East ) Hartford ended the Retrievers' five-game winning streak.

Hartford has won two of its last three games, and also beat UMBC (14-10, 6-3), 66-64, on Jan. 9.

Jason Dunne's 3-pointer gave the Hawks the lead for good, 43-40, with about 14 minutes left and they stretched it to 59-49 with 3:20 remaining. UMBC pulled to 59-54, but Hartford made 9 of its last 10 free throws.

Women

Hartford 92, UMBC 47: The visiting Retrievers (8-14, 1-8 America East) turned the ball over 15 times in the first quarter and trailed 32-10 to the host Hawks (16-8, 9-1) in the opening stanza. Tyler Moore had 11 points for UMBC.
