Chad Andrews-Fulton scored 24 points and pulled down 18 rebounds, both career-highs to lead the Coppin State men's basketball team to an 83-69 victory at Morgan State on Thursday night at Hill field House. It is the first time since the 2014-15 season that the Eagles swept the season series with their crosstown rival.
Coppin State improved to 7-24, 7-9 Mid-American Athletic Conference) and the Bears fell to 9-20, 4-12. The Eagles led the series, 59-32. Four Eagles scored in double figures as Lamar Morgan finished with 14 while Dejuan Clayton and Cedric Council had 13 points each. Coppin led from start to finish, outshooting Morgan State, 47.5 to 35.4 percent and outrebounded the Bears, 50-35. The Eagles had 22 second-chance points.
Morgan State 70, Coppin State 47: Adre’onia Coleman (St. Frances) and Ashia McCalla each scored 15 points to lead the host Bears (9-20, 7-8 MEAC) past the Eagles (4-23, 4-11) in the regular-season finale.
Morgan State used a 13-5 run in the second quarter to get separation. Coppin State was led by Jalynda Salley (14 points) and Brooke Fields (Institute of Notre Dame) with 13 points.
UMES 69, Delaware State 58: Keyera Eaton scored 21 points to lead the host Hawks (16-13, 12-4 MEAC) past the Hornets (7-20, 5-11). UMES opened with a 23-8 run in the first quarter. The Hawks led by as many as 21 points in the second half.
Delaware 70, Towson 57: Nukiya Mayo scored 14 points, but the host Tigers (17-11, 11-6 Colonial Athletic Association) fell to the Blue Hens (16-13, 11-6). Delaware finished strong on a 27-13 run in the fourth quarter. It was Towson’s second straight loss and the host Drexel at 2 p.m. Saturday. The victory was the third straight for Delaware.
Sacred Heart 53, Mount St. Mary’s 46: Juliette Lawless had a game-high 17 points, but the host Mount (14-14, 8-9 Northeast Conference) fell to the Pioneers (17-11, 13-4). Sacred Heart went on a 16-5 run in the second quarter. Mount St. Mary’s has lost its past two games.
