Christian Kessee scored 22 points and Terry Harris had his ninth double double with 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the visiting Coppin State men's basketball team (8-21, 6-10 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) to a 72-62 win over Delaware State (7-24, 5-11) on Thursday night.
Kessee hit five 3-pointers as part of his 8-for-18 shooting. Harris made just four field goals but was 12-for-13 at the free-throw line, where the Eagles scored 19 points. Josh Treadwell added 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Coppin State.
The Eagles were hot in the first half, hitting all nine of their 3-pointers — out of 14 made field goals — while staking out a 45-32 lead by halftime.
Harris built Coppin State's lead to 65-46 after taking an elbow to the face and making two foul shots on the technical with 8:19 to play.
Devin Morgan scored 17 points and DeAndre Haywood 13 to lead the Hornets.
Coppin State 54, Delaware State 49: The Eagles bench had 22 points in a road victory against the host Hornets (9-20, 6-10 MEAC) in the regular-season finale.
Jordan Swails had 12 points and 11 rebounds for Coppin State (13-15, 10-6).
The Eagles had a strong first half against Delaware State, forcing 18 turnovers and controlling the paint, outrebounding the Hornets 26-22. The Eagles shot 28 percent (11-39) from the field while holding Delaware State to 21 percent (5-for-23).
UMES 50, Morgan State 42: The visiting Hawks (12-16, 10-6 MEAC) took their biggest lead, eight, with 28 seconds left in the game and beat the Bears (12-16, 10-6) in the regular-season finale.
