State basketball roundup (Feb. 27): Army tops Loyola Maryland despite Andrew Kostecka's career-high 32 points

Men

Army West Point 79, Loyola Maryland 69: John Emezie registered 14 points as the host Black Knights (13-17, 8-9 Patriot) got past the Greyhounds (10-20, 6-11).

Matt Wilson had 13 points and nine rebounds for Army. Lonnie Grayson added 11 points. Tommy Funk had seven assists for the home team.

Andrew Kostecka scored a career-high 32 points and had seven steals for Loyola.

The Black Knights evened the season series against the Greyhounds with the win. Loyola defeated Army 66-64 on Jan. 12. Army finishes out the regular season against Bucknell on the road on Saturday. Loyola finishes out the regular season against Lehigh at home on Saturday.

Stony Brook 78, UMBC 63: Akwasi Yeboah had 16 points to lead five Seawolves in double figures over the visiting Retrievers (18-12, 10-5 America East ). Stony Brook improved to 23-6, 11-3.

KJ Jackson had 18 points for UMBC. Joe Sherburne added 16 points. Ricky Council II had 10 points.

The Seawolves evened the season series against the Retrievers with the win. Maryland-Baltimore County defeated Stony Brook 57-49 on Jan. 30. Stony Brook (23-6, 11-3) faces Vermont on the road on Saturday. Maryland-Baltimore County finishes out the regular season against New Hampshire at home on Saturday.

Women

Lehigh 65, Loyola Maryland 46: Hannah Niles had a game-high 16 points, but the host Greyhounds (4-23, 3-13 Patriot) fell to the Moutain Hawks (18-9, 10-6). Lehigh used a 24-5 run in the second quarter to pull away. Loyola has lost three straight.

The Greyhounds travel to Navy Saturday at 7 p.m.

Bucknell 90, Navy 48: Jennifer Coleman scored a game-high 23 points, but the visiting Mids (10-16, 5-11 Patriot) fell to the Bison (23-5, 14-2). Bucknell used a 22-7 run in the second quarter to take a 45-23 halftime lead. Ellie Mack had 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Bison.

Stony Brook 70, UMBC 59: The visiting Seawolves (21-7, 10-5 America East) finished strong on a 24-13 run to beat the Retrievers (9-19, 2-13). Tyler Moore had a game-high 19 points and Te'yJah Oliver had 15 points for UMBC.
