State basketball roundup (Feb. 14): Bucknell cruises past Loyola Maryland men, 94-53

Men

Bucknell 94, Loyola Maryland 53: Stephen Brown scored 20 points, Zach Thomas had 12 points and 12 rebounds and the host Bison (19-9, 13-2) routed the Greyhounds (8-18, 6-9) to clinch the Patriot League regular season title.

Bucknell has won 12 of its last 13 games, including six straight at home, and will be the top seed into the league tournament for the seventh time in the last eight seasons.

The Bison have a four-game lead over Colgate after the Raiders lost to Lehigh at home Wednesday, and Navy with three games remaining.

Nate Sestina added 18 points and Nana Foulland 15 for Bucknell, which shot 53 percent from the floor and surpassed 90 points for the third time this season. They also outrebounded the Greyhounds 51-33.

Isaiah Hart scored 12 points and Andrew Kostecka 10 for Loyola (8-18, 6-9), which has lost four of its last five games.

Women

Navy 59, Lafayette 43: Sophie Gatzounas scored 16 points to lead the visiting Mids (21-4, 11-3 Patriot) past the Leopards (9-15, 5-9).

Bucknell 74, Loyola Maryland 69: Isabella Therien had a career-best 26 points in her fourth 20-point game, but the host Greyhounds (7-17, 5-8 Patriot) fell to the Bison (16-8, 10-3).

Stony Brook 53, UMBC 49: The host Seawolves (16-11, 8-6 America East) used a 14-8 run in the fourth quarter to beat the Retrievers (3-23, 2-11). Laura Castaldo and Brittani Burgess each had 12 points for UMBC.
