State basketball roundup (Feb. 3): Free throws lift Mount St. Mary's men to win over St. Francis

Greg Alexander and Jonah Antonio each went 2-for-2 from the free throw line in the closing 39 seconds to lift host Mount St. Mary's to a 59-56 victory over St. Francis (Pa.), in men's basketball Saturday.

Alexander made a dunk with 2:22 left for a 55-53 lead for the Mount (14-11, 8-4 Northeast Conference ) before Jamaal King made a jumper and went 1-for-2 from the line for a 56-55 lead for the Red Flash (13-10, 7-5) with 39 seconds left.

James Madison 79, Towson 73: Stuckey Mosley scored 35 points and the host Dukes (7-18, 3-9 Colonial Athletic Association) came back from an 11-point deficit to beat the Tigers (16-9, 6-6).

Zane Martin led Towson with 28 points.

Holy Cross 73, Loyola Maryland 57: Jacob Grandison scored a career-high 21 points and the visiting Crusaders (8-15, 5-7 Patriot League ) rolled over the Greyhounds (7-16, 5-7).

Bethune-Cookman 80, Coppin State 60: The host Wildcats (12-11, 6-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference ) scored 42 points in the first half and beat the Eagles (4-21, 4-6).

Norfolk State 76, Morgan State 65:Kyson Rawls scored 11 points for the visiting Bears (8-14, 4-5 MEAC), who've lost five of their last six. The Spartans improved to 7-16, 5-3.

Women

Morgan State 55, Norfolk State 53: Adre'onia Coleman (St. Frances) made the game-winning layup with one second left to lift the Bears (12-10, 5-4 MEAC) over the host Spartans (12-8, 5-3).

UMBC 52, Vermont 51: Lakiah Smith made the game-winning layup with one minute left as the Retrievers (3-20, 2-8 America East ) held off the host Catamounts (6-16, 3-6). Brittani Burgess led UMBC with 13 points.

Loyola Maryland 65, Holy Cross 58: Alexis Grey (21 points) and Isabella Therien (20 points) led the way as the visiting Greyhounds (7-15, 5-6 Patriot League) beat the Crusaders (10-12, 5-6).

Loyola took control in the second quarter and led by as many as 14 points.

Navy 69, Colgate 42: The visiting Mids (18-4, 8-3 Patriot League) went on a 20-6 run in the third quarter and beat the Raiders (4-18, 0-11). Navy was led by four players in double figures: Taylor Dunham (17 points), Hannah Fenske (15), Bianca Roach (12) and Laurel Jaunich (12).

LIU-Brooklyn 61, Mount St. Mary's 59: Jeydah Johnson (20 points) made the game-winning 3-pointer with 14 seconds left in the game as the Blackbirds (9-12, 5-5 Northeast Conference) beat the host Mount (7-14, 4-6).

Bethune-Cookman 64, Coppin State 38: The conference-leading Wildcats (16-4, 8-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) went on a 23-6 run in the second quarter and beat the visiting Eagles (6-16, 5-5).
