State basketball roundup (Jan. 24): Walker lifts Loyola men over Lehigh in 2OT, 91-88

Andre Walker scored 32 points and had a career-high 12 rebounds, and his jumper with 1:49 to go in the second overtime put visiting Loyola Maryland ahead for good in a 91-88 men's basketball win over Lehigh on Wednesday night.

Walker's shot followed Sam Norton's 3-pointer and Loyola (6-14, 4-5 Patriot League) led 86-85. Norton followed with a layup, Andrew Kostecka made one of two foul shots and Walker made a pair from the line with 18 seconds remaining to complete a 10-0 run.

Loyola's Cam Gregory's layup with 51 seconds left in the first overtime knotted it at 79 and each team missed on its final possession. Lance Tejada made one of two from the line with 10 seconds left in regulation to tie it at 72.

Gregory added 24 points for Loyola and Kostecka had 12. Marques Wilson led Lehigh (8-12, 3-6) with 19 points.

UMBC 69, Binghamton 57: Joe Sherburne scored 18 points, including a 3-pointer from the corner to blunt a comeback, and the host Retrievers (14-8, 5-2 America East) beat the Bearcats (10-12, 1-6).

Sherburne made seven of 11 shots, including four of six from 3-point range, had four assists, two steals and a blocked shot for UMBC, which rebounded from a 44-point loss at Albany. The Retrievers have won four of their past five and retain sole possession of second place in conference behind Vermont.

Bucknell 87, Navy 67: Senior point guard Stephen Brown led a balanced attack as the defending champion Bison took a big first-half lead and never looked back in beating the Midshipmen at Alumni Hall.

Brown made seven shots from beyond the arc in scoring a game-high 27 points for Bucknell, which led by double digits from the 13:14 mark of the first half until the finish. Senior forward Zach Thomas had 16 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for the Bison (14-8, 8-1), who maintained possession of first place in the Patriot League.

Senior guard Bryce Dulin scored 14 points to lead Navy (13-9, 4-5), which has dropped four of its past six.

Women

Loyola Maryland 67, Lehigh 64: Izzy Therien scored 21 points and the host Greyhounds (5-14, 3-5 Patriot League) beat the Mountain Hawks (12-7, 6-2).

Bucknell 47, Navy 39: The host Bison (12-8, 6-3 Patriot League) held the Mids (16-4, 6-3) to a season-low in points.

Navy was led by Hannah Fenske, Bianca Roach and Mary Kate Ulasewicz with seven points each.

Binghamton 81, UMBC 51: Laura Castaldo had 13 points, but the visiting Retrievers (2-18, 1-6 America East) fell to the Bearcats (13-7, 4-3).
