No. 7 seed Morgan State faces No. 6 seed North Carolina Central Friday in MEAC semis

A day after No. 7 seed Morgan State upset No. 2 Bethune-Cookman, No. 6 seed North Carolina Central beat No. 3 Savannah State in the MEAC Tournament quarterfinals.

That sets up a semifinal game Friday between Morgan State (13-18) and N.C. Central (17-15) at 8:30 p.m. at Scope Arena in Norfolk, Va.

Pablo Rivas and Raasean Davis combined to score 35 points and grab 32 rebounds in N.C. Central’s 58-56 win over Savannah State Thursday night.

Rivas scored 19 points on 7 of 11 shooting, 3 of 5 on 3-pointers, and grabbed 12 boards. Davis, who dunked with about a minute left to cap the scoring for N.C. Central, pulled down 20 rebounds and scored 16 points.

Morgan and N.C. Central met on Jan. 5 in Durham, N.C., with the Eagles prevailing 77-63 at McDougald-McLendon Arena.

Davis had 18 points and 11 rebounds and Rivas added 15 points for N.C. Central. Tiwian Kendley scored a game-high 26 points for Morgan State. Phillip Carr finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.

In the MEAC Tournament first round on Tuesday, N.C. Central topped Coppin State, 60- 48. Morgan State beat S.C. State, 83-80.
