Indoor soccer: Blast midfielder Tony Donatelli has been named to the Major Arena Soccer League Team of the Week. Donatelli scored two goals in a win against the Harrisburg Heat. Joey Kapinos was named honorable mention. In his second start with the Blast, Kapinos saved 12 of 14 shots against the Heat. The Blast host the Syracuse Silver Knights on Saturday at 6:05 p.m. at SECU Arena.
National Women's Soccer League: The Washington Spirit selected U.S. national team midfielder Rose Lavelle with the No. 1 overall pick in the NWSL dispersal draft. The club selected defender Elizabeth Wenger with the No. 17 pick and forward Tiffany Weimer with the No. 20 pick, before passing on the No. 35 pick.

Baseball: The Cincinnati Reds signed free-agent right-handed reliever David Hernandez to a two-year, $5 million deal. Hernandez, 32, had a 3.11 ERA in 64 appearances for the Los Angeles Angels and Arizona Diamondbacks last season. He pitched for the Orioles in 2009 and 2010. Free-agent right-handed reliever Matt Albers has finalized a two-year, $5 million contract with the Milwaukee Brewers . Albers, 35, was 7-2 with a 1.62 ERA in 63 games for the Washington Nationals last season. He pitched for the Orioles from 2008 to 2010.
