Guard Marques Townes made a layup with five seconds left in overtime Monday to give Fairleigh Dickinson an 85-84 victory over host Towson.
Townes finished with 18 points off the bench for the Knights (5-6), who won for just the second time in seven road games this season. Guard Darian Anderson scored 23 points, while guard Mustafaa Jones added 17 for Fairleigh Dickinson.
Guard Four McGlynn scored 27 points for Towson (7-6), which has lost five straight games. Forward Timajh Parker-Rivera and forward John Davis each scored 15 points for the Tigers, who won the rebounding battle 47-24.
After trailing by 14 at the break, the Knights chipped away and eventually tied the game at 73 on a layup by Townes with 2:24 remaining in regulation. Less than a minute later, forward Darius Stokes gave Fairleigh Dickinson its first lead since the opening minutes, 75-73.
Towson responded, and a layup and free throw by Parker-Rivera provided a one-point lead with 1:29 left. But the Knights made a couple of key defensive stops, and Townes sank two free throws to give Fairleigh Dickinson a one-point lead with 13 seconds left.
The Tigers sent the game to overtime on a free throw by forward Eddie Keith II with one second remaining. Towson converted just two field goals in the final 12 minutes of regulation, and 15 of its final 17 points came at the free-throw line.
In the extra period, the teams traded baskets until a jumper and pair of free throws by McGlynn gave the Tigers an 83-80 cushion with 1:07 left. Anderson answered with another 3-pointer that tied the game again with 41 seconds remaining.
Towson took an 84-83 lead on a free throw by Parker-Rivera, but Townes answered with the game-winning layup.
Old Dominion 69, Mount St. Mary's 35: The host Monarchs (11-1) outscored the Mount (4-7) 42-19 in the first half of Mount St.Mary's final nonconference game of the season.
Andrew Smeathers had 12 points to lead the Mount. Javonte Douglas led Old Dominion with 16 points and nine rebounds.
The Mountaineers struggled from the field, shooting 11-for-50 (22.0 percent) overall and just 4-for-27 (14.8 percent) in the second half. Old Dominion held a 48-to-36 edge on the boards.
Women
Penn 69, UMBC 63: The host Quakers (5-4) scored 10 of the first 12 points after halftime to keep the Retrievers (5-6) at a distance.
Capree Garner scored 19 points and Liz McNaughton had 16 points for UMBC.
Penn's Sydney Stipanovich had a game-high 29 points.
