State basketball: Hofstra beats Towson from free-throw line, 87-82

Hofstra scored 21 of its final 23 points from the free-throw line and beat host Towson, 87-82, on Wednesday night.

Ameen Tanksley was 14-for-15 from the line in scoring 21 points and Juan'ya Green also scored 21, making 10 of 11 from the line. The Pride made 37 of 42 free throws for 88.1 percent. Dion Nesmith added 16 points and Moussa Kone 11. Hofstra (18-10, 9-6 Colonial Athletic Association) also made 10 of 23 from beyond the arc.

Four McGlynn tied a career-high with 27 points to lead the Tigers (12-16, 5-10). John Davis added 17 and Eddie Keith II 13. The Tigers, who committed 31 fouls and had three players foul out, made 21 of 25 shots from the line for a season-high 84 percent.

The victory was the first for Hofstra over Towson in six meetings.

Towson led 68-64 with 7:35 left when Hofstra went on its free-throw spree.

Bucknell 61, Loyola Maryland 50: The host Bison (16-12, 11-4 Patriot League) outscored the Greyhounds (10-16, 6-9), 36-26, in the second half to pull away.

Loyola trailed 25-24 at halftime, but Chancellor Barnard rebounded his own miss and put in a layup 39 seconds into the second half, giving the Greyhounds a brief advantage.

League-leading Bucknell responded with the next four points, and six of eight overall, from Nana Foulland, however, and the Bison jumped back in front.

Loyola's Tyler Hubbard scored a game-high 16, making four of five attempts from behind the 3-point line, and Franz Rassman added 14. No other Greyhounds player, however, scored more than six.

The Greyhounds will return home Sunday, when they play Colgate at noon.

Women

Navy 50, Lehigh 44: The host Mountain Hawks (17-8, 9-6 Patriot) shot 25 percent from the field and the Mids (15-11, 9-6) began to build their lead with 10 minutes left in the first half.

The teams are tied for third place in the league standings, with Navy holding the tiebreaker by way of its season sweep.

The Mids' Taylor Dunham and Lehigh's Sarah Williams each scored 12 points. Navy led by as many as 14 points in the second half.

Bucknell 72, Loyola Maryland 61: The visiting Bison (16-10, 8-7 Patriot) used a 20-5 run in the second half to beat the Greyhounds (7-19, 5-10).

Colleen Marshall scored 14 points for Loyola Maryland.

Albany 84, UMBC 68: Capree Garner had 23 points in a losing effort as the Retrievers (9-17, 4-9 America East) fell to the host Great Danes (19-7, 12-1).
