Andrew Hampton hit five 3-pointers and scored 17 points — both career highs — and Cliff Cornish hit two free throws and blocked a shot in the final seconds to help host Morgan State upset Norfolk State, 73-70, in men's basketball Saturday.
Hampton, a sophomore walk-on, had played just 28 minutes and scored nine points all season before hitting six of seven field-goal attempts, including five of six from 3-point range.
Cedric Blossom scored 19 for Morgan State (7-18, 5-6 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference).
Jamel Fuentes made a layup and Jeff Short hit two free throws to give Norfolk State (16-11, 9-3) a one-point lead with 55 seconds left.
Cornish made a pair of free throws to give Morgan State a 71-70 lead with 28 seconds to play before blocking a layup by Short. Blake Bozeman was fouled after getting the rebound and his two free throws closed the scoring.
Navy 70, Colgate 69: Worth Smith made the game-winning basket with 13 seconds left as the Midshipmen rallied with an 11-0 run to edge the host Raiders.
Smith made a pair of 3-pointers and the winning layup in the final 1:14. He finished with 22 points and five rebounds. Will Kelly scored 12 points and Bryce Dulin had 11.
Colgate (12-15, 9-5 Patriot League) led 35-24 at the break and extended its lead in the second half to 53-38 on a pair of back-to-back 3s by Damon Sherman-Newsome with 12:35 left before the Midshipmen (10-16, 6-8) battled back.
Boston University 73, Loyola Maryland 60: Cedric Hankerson scored 20 points, half of them from the free-throw line, to lead the host Terriers (11-14, 7-7 Patriot) past the Greyhounds (10-15, 6-8).
John Papale and Cheddi Mosely added 12 points apiece for BU, which controlled the boards 42-28 to avenge an overtime loss to Loyola on Jan. 18.
Loyola cut the gap to three with Andre Walker's 3-pointer with 1:46 left, but BU clinched the victory by going 12-for-13 from the free-throw line down the stretch.
Walker led Loyola with 13 points, and Tyler Hubbard added 11.
Mount St. Mary's 75, Bryant 68: Byron Ashe scored 20 of his career-high 24 points in the first half, during which the host Mount (12-13, 8-6 Northeast Conference) built a seven-point lead and then never trailed.
The Mountaineers built their lead to as many as 12 in the second half before the Bulldogs (12-13, 9-5) rallied, getting within 67-62 on Dyami Starks' basket with 3:02 remaining. Gregory Graves made a put-back dunk to get the lead back to seven with 1:32 left.
Vermont 74, UMBC 51: Ethan O'Day scored a career-high-tying 22 points and had eight rebounds to lead the host Catamounts (16-10, 11-2 America East) past the Retrievers (3-22, 1-11) for their fifth straight win.
Cody Joyce had 13 points and Malcolm Brent added 12 and five rebounds for UMBC, which lost its sixth straight game.
Vermont built on a six-point halftime lead with a 19-5 run to push the advantage to 20 with 10:38 to go.
Howard 77, Coppin State 60: James Carlton had 27 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Bison (13-12, 7-4 MEAC) past the host Eagles (5-20, 4-8).
James Daniel III made four of five 3-point attempts to add 18 points and James Miller scored 10 for Howard (13-12, 7-4).
Coppin State's Taariq Cephas scored 18 points, including making four of six 3-pointers, and Sterling Smith added 17 points. Cephas became the 22nd player in school history to reach 1,000 career points.
Delaware State 91, UMES 85: Kendal Williams scored 22 points and led four players in double figures as the Hornets (12-13, 6-4 MEAC) beat the Hawks (14-13, 7-5).
Amere May scored 20 points, Tyshawn Bell hit five 3-pointers on his way to 19 points, and Kendall Gray added 15 for Delaware State, which shot 50 percent from the field and was 13-for-31 (42 percent) from 3-point range.
Women
Loyola Maryland 66, Boston 55: Colleen Marshall scored a career-high 35 points and tied a school record with seven 3-pointers to lead the host Greyhounds (7-18, 5-9 Patriot) past the Terriers (5-20, 2-12).
Marshall also became the second Loyla player to score as many as 35 points in a game, joining Patty Stoffey, the Greyhounds' all-time leading scorer.
UMBC 71, Vermont 64: Taylor McCarley scored a game-high 31 points to power the host Retrievers (9-16, 4-8 America East) past the Catamounts (5-20, 2-11).
UMBC led by seven at the half before trading baskets in the second half.
Coppin State 75, Howard 61: Jordan Swails had 24 points and the host Eagles (4-18, 3-8 MEAC) broke a six-game losing streak by beating the Bison (3-21, 3-8).
Norfolk State 64, Morgan State 56: Rae Corbo scored 25 points and the host Spartans (9-14, 8-4) completed their sweep of the Bears (9-15, 6-5).
UMES: 96, Delaware State 59: TeAmber Burke had 22 points and the host Hawks (9-13, 6-6 MEAC) won their second straight, beating the Hornets (5-18, 2-8).
Navy 64, Colgate 52: The host Mids (14-11, 8-6 Patriot), led by Chloe Stapleton and Taylor Dunham with 15 points each, went 11-for-25 from 3-point range to beat the Raiders (5-20, 4-10).
Bryant 55, Mount St. Mary's 53: With the game tied at 53 with nine seconds left, Jenniqua Bailey went 2-for-2 from the free-throw line to lift the Bulldogs (17-7, 10-3 Northeast) over the Mount (7-17, 5-8).
