State hoops: Morgan State women win, giving coach Donald Beasley record mark

When the Morgan State women's basketball team beat Florida A&M, 57-50, on Saturday, the program made school history.

Coach Donald Beasley earned his 123rd career coaching victory, making him the program's all-time leader.

Braennan Farrar scored all of her game-high 19 points in the second half, and Danielle Robinson scored 10 of her 13 points in the first half.

The win was a season-best third straight for Morgan State (6-11, 3-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), which improved to 33-11 all time against the Rattlers (4-12, 1-3).

Navy 65, Colgate 63: Hannah Fenske hit the winning layup at the buzzer to lift the visiting Midshipmen (10-7, 4-2 Patriot League) over the Raiders (2-15, 1-5).

Navy took control in the second half and led by as many as 16 points before Colgate rallied. The Raiders' Missy Repoli made a 3-pointer with eight seconds left to tie the score at 63.

Taylor Dunham led the Mids with 18 points.

UMBC 68, Vermont 61: Capree Garner and Taylor McCarley combined for 39 points, 14 rebounds, nine steals and seven assists to help the visiting Retrievers (6-11, 1-3) end a six-game skid and earn their first America East Conference victory of the season.

Coach Phil Stern earned his 150th victory at UMBC, three wins shy of becoming the program's all-time wins leader. The Catamounts (3-14, 0-5) fell for the seventh straight time.

Loyola Maryland 63, Boston University 53: Bri Betz-White scored a game-high 23 points and the visiting Greyhounds improved to 5-12 and 3-3 in the Patriot League.

The Terriers (4-13, 1-5) cut the lead to two points with four minutes left.

Mount St. Mary's 76, Long Island University-Brooklyn 69: Jacqueline Brewer shot 5-for-9 from the field and finished with a team-best 19 points as the Mountaineers (6-10, 4-1 Northeast Conference) beat the host Blackbirds (5-10, 2-3) at Barclays Center.

Mount St. Mary's led by as many as 18 points with eight minutes left before LIU-Brooklyn trimmed the deficit.

UMES 61, Savannah State 50: The host Hawks (6-8, 3-1 MEAC) led from start to finish. Jessica Long scored 14 points, and Shawnee Sweeney had 10.

The Tigers fell to 7-9, 2-2.

Bethune-Cookman 61, Coppin State 58: Genesis Lucas made a 3-pointer with four seconds left to cut the Eagles' deficit to three, but the rally fell short.

Coppin State (2-12, 1-2 MEAC) saw its early lead evaporate with 13:29 to go in the second half. The Wildcats (5-12, 2-3) led by as many as 12 in the second half.

Men

Vermont 71, UMBC 54: Ethan O'Day scored 15 points on 7-for-9 shooting and Brendan Kilpatrick added 13 points as nine players scored for the visiting Catamounts (9-8, 4-0 America East).

O'Day opened the game with a layup and a blocked shot as Vermont cruised to a 16-4 lead. Trae Bell-Haynes added 10 points and six assists for the Catamounts.

Wayne Sparrow, who led the Retrievers (2-15, 0-4) with 20 points, made two layups and a jump shot to spark a 10-2 run that closed the gap to 18-16 and forced a Vermont timeout. Cody Joyce scored 14, and Jourdan Grant had 12.

Mount St. Mary's 61, Long Island University-Brooklyn 54: Junior Robinson scored all 12 of his points in the second half to help spark the visiting Mount's comeback victory.

Mount St. Mary's (8-9, 4-2) was held to two points for the first 11 minutes of the first half, and after closing on a 10-3 run, trailed by 10 at the break. The Blackbirds (6-11, 2-4) clung to the lead, but a 10-0 surge by the Mountaineers put them in front with 5:36 left.

The Blackbirds shot 3-for-11 in the remaining minutes.

Morgan State 75, Florida A&M 65: Cedric Blossom had career highs of 26 points and 14 rebounds for the host Bears (4-15, 2-3 MEAC).

Morgan State led by 12 points at the half, and the Rattlers fell to 0-17, 0-3.

UMES 87, Savannah State 57: Devin Martin scored 23 points on 9-for-12 shooting and had six rebounds to lead the host Hawks (10-9, 3-1 MEAC) past the Tigers (4-13, 0-3).

Michael Myers finished with 20 points and eight rebounds for UMES, which has not been over .500 this late in the season since 1996.

Bethune-Cookman 58, Coppin State 53: The Wildcats (5-13, 1-3 MEAC) got their first league win as the Eagles took their 12th straight loss.

Taariq Cephas led Coppin State (1-16, 0-4) with 12 points but was the only player to reach double figures.
