State basketball roundup: Navy women reach Patriot semis

The Navy women's basketball team drew Bucknell, a team it lost to twice in the regular season by a total of three points, as its opponent in the Patriot League quarterfinals Friday night.

The Mids (17-13) avenged those regular-season losses with a 69-40 victory. The Bison fell to 18-12.


Sarita Condie scored a career-high 20 points for Navy, which advances to Monday's semifinal at 7 p.m. against American.

The Mids fell behind early and went scoreless for 61/2 minutes before scoring 12 points off six turnovers. Navy ended the half on an 11-0 run and took a 28-22 lead at halftime.

The Mids are the only Patriot League team to advance to the semifinals seven years in a row.

Stevenson 67, Williams 55: The Mustangs (24-3) shot 47.1 percent from the field in the second half in a come-from-behind win over the Ephs (20-7) in the opening round of the NCAA Division III tournament.

Sara Tarbert finished with a game-high 24 points for the Mustangs, who face host Montclair State in tonight's second round at 6.

Stockton 68, McDaniel 49: The Ospreys (22-6) put together a 14-4 run early in the second half and beat the Green Terror (24-4) in the opening round of the NCAA Division III tournament at Salisbury.

Steph Perez led McDaniel with 14 points to finish her career with 1,290, ninth in program history.

Salisbury 65, Bridgewater State (Mass.) 63: Trailing 60-59, Anna Hackett started a 6-0 run with 2:25 left in the game as the host Sea Gulls (26-2) rallied over the Bears (16-11) in the opening round of the NCAA Division III tournament.

The Sea Gulls will host Stockton at 6 in tonight's second round.


Salisbury 66, Eastern Connecticut State 54: Wyatt Smith (John Carroll) powered the Sea Gulls (21-7) past the Warriors (22-6) in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament at Trinity.

Smith made a driving layup with 7:17 left in the first half to start a 12-0 run for Salisbury, and scored 20 of his career-high 37 points in the first half.

Salisbury faces host Trinity (Conn.) tonight at 7.

Johns Hopkins 95, Keene State 78: The host Blue Jays (24-4) used an 11-0 first-half run and went 43-for-49 from the line to top the Owls (20-9) in the opening round of the NCAA Division III tournament.


Jimmy Hammer scored 29 points and George Bugarinovic added 26 for Hopkins, which hosts Skidmore tonight at 7.
