The Citadel fired former Maryland assistant coach Chuck Driesell after five losing seasons as head coach of the Bulldogs. The school said in a statement Monday that it would not renew Driesell's contract, which ends in April.
Driesell, the son of longtime Maryland coach Lefty Driesell, finished with an overall record of 42-113 at the Citadel. His teams went 22-66 in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs were 12-18 this season, posting their most victories in Driesell's tenure.
Honors: Maryland freshman point guard Melo Trimble was named to a pair of All-America teams Monday.
On Sporting News, Trimble was named to the second team, and the outlet said Trimble's "ability, as a freshman, to help guide the Terps through their first season in the Big Ten was nothing short of amazing."
