Towson men top East Tennessee St., 83-77, in second round of CIT

Sophomore guard Four McGlynn hit six 3-pointers, leading to 23 points and an 83-77 second-round win for Towson over East Tennessee State (19-16) in the second round of the CollegeInsider.com tournament Friday night.

The Tigers (25-10) led by as many as 15 points in the second half, but a late Pirates rally cut the lead to 81-77 with 6.6 seconds left. McGlynn hit two free throws on the next possession to clinch the win.


Towson shot 27-for-53 (50.9 percent), including 8-for-15 (53.3 percent) from 3-point range. Senior forward Jerrelle Benimon finished with 12 points.

The Tigers have won 25 games for just the third time in school history and will advance to play in the quarterfinals next week. The game date, time and opponent will be announced at a later date.

Women's NIT

Duquesne 62, Mount St. Mary's 52: Senior guard Sydney Henderson scored 14 points and junior guard Jacqueline Brewer added 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Mountaineers (19-14), but their season ended at the host Dukes (20-12) in the first round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament.

The Mountaineers trailed just 52-49 with after a layup by freshman center Kaitlyn Eisenhard with 1:49 remaining, but a 10-3 Dukes run fueled by free throws sealed the victory.

Old Dominion 68, Navy 60: The Mids (24-8) had the lead with nine minutes to play but lost to the host Monarchs on Thursday night.

Navy clawed back to make it 63-60 with 1:31 left, but the Monarchs (18-15) closed the game with a 5-0 run.

points for Old Dominion's next 11 consecutive points as the Monarchs came back to go ahead 60-56.
