Loyola women’s basketball to face Bucknell in opening weekend

The Loyola Maryland women’s program will open its season on Saturday and Sunday as planned, but against a different opponent due to coronavirus issues.

The Greyhounds announced Friday they would face Bucknell this weekend instead of American as the Eagles await further COVID-19 testing to meet their school’s and Patriot League protocols.

Loyola will travel to Lewisburg, Pa., to face the Bison on Saturday at 2 p.m. Bucknell will then return the favor with a trip to Baltimore for a game on Sunday at 6 p.m.

The move came one day after the men’s team postponed the start of its season because of a positive coronavirus test among Tier 1 personnel. Games against American this weekend and Navy on Jan. 9-10 were postponed.
