Boys’ Latin grad stands out as Loyola Maryland finally opens season with loss at Lafayette

Brandon Bradsher (Boys’ Latin) made his first career start in the opening game of his senior year, and the walk-on scored a team-high 21 points as Loyola Maryland’s late comeback fell just short in a 77-75 Patriot League loss at Lafayette.

Bradsher, one of three Greyhounds to come from nearby Boys’ Latin, entered the game with 14 career points in 17 games over the last two seasons. On Saturday evening, the senior made six of his nine field goals and 5 of 7 from 3-point range.

The Greyhounds (0-1, overall) were making their season debut in their first game since March 3, 2020.

Golden Dike added 15 points, three off his career-high, to go with a game-high eight rebounds. Jaylin Andrews, another Boys’ Latin product, scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half, and he also grabbed seven rebounds. Santi Aldama scored 11 and had five rebounds and two blocked shots.

The Greyhounds host Lafayette (4-1) in their home opener Sunday at 6 p.m. at Reitz Arena.

MORGAN STATE 95, COPPIN STATE 72: De’Torrian Ware scored 29 points, Troy Baxter added 27 and Malik Miller had 21 as the Bears (5-2, 3-1 MEAC) defeated their crosstown conference rival. Morgan State has won four of its past five games.

Baxter and Malik each also had 12 rebounds.

Anthony Tarke (17), Kyle Cardaci (12) and Koby Thomas (10) all scored in double figures for the Eagles (3-10, 2-2). Tarke added 15 rebounds.

The teams square off again Sunday at Morgan’s Hill Field House at 2 p.m.

JAMES MADISON 81, TOWSON 72: The Tigers (1-5, 0-1) returned to the court for the first time since Dec. 16 and dropped their Colonial Athletic Association opener to the Dukes.

Demetrius Mims led Towson with 16 points and Solomon Uyaelunmo added 12 rebounds.

Women

MORGAN STATE 49, DELAWARE STATE 48: Dahnye Redd made a pair of free throws with 1:05 remaining to put the Bears (5-2, 2-1) up by three and they held on for their second straight MEAC victory.

Redd finished with eight points and six rebounds and Ashia McCalla scored 13 points to pace Morgan.

HOWARD 60, COPPIN STATE 52: Aliyah Lawson scored 16 points and Alexandra Hamilton added 13 for the Eagles (1-4, 1-2 MEAC) in a losing effort in Washington.

AMERICAN 61, NAVY 52: The Mids (0-5, 0-1 Patriot League) dropped their conference opener in their first game since Dec. 18. Jennifer Coleman led Navy with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
