Three Terps named to watch lists for their position by Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame

Maryland's Melo Trimble, Jake Layman and Rasheed Sulaimon are on award watch lists.

Three members of a Maryland men’s basketball team being touted as a national championship contender have found their way onto player-of-the-year watch lists at their respective positions, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Tuesday.

Sophomore Melo Trimble, who after being named first-team all-Big Ten Conference as a freshman, is on the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award watch list for a second straight year.

Senior Jake Layman, who was third-team all-Big Ten last season, is on the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award watch list. Layman spent much of last season on the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award watch list, but is being moved back to his natural position with the addition of Robert Carter Jr.

Senior Rasheed Sulaimon, who transferred from Duke after graduating this summer, is among the candidates for the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year award.

There are 20 candidates on each list, which will be trimmed to 10 in mid-February.
