River Hill grad Tommy Brenton signs pro basketball contract in Japan

Tommy Brenton, a former River Hill star who finished his career at Stony Brook this spring, has signed a pro contract with Link Togichi Brex, a team based in the Tochigi Prefecture in Japan, approximately 80 miles outside of Tokyo.

Brenton, the 2013 Lefty Driesell National Defensive Player of the Year, was also honored his senior year as the America East Player of the Year and the conference's top defensive player.

"Tommy made an impact on the Stony Brook men's basketball program like no other student-athlete, and it excites me to now call him a professional basketball player," Stony Brook coach Steve Pikiell said in a news release. "He exemplifies everything we hope to develop in a student-athlete; he competed hard on the court and helped us win championships, he earned not only his bachelor's degree, but also his master's degree and now he's a pro. We wish him well as he moves to Japan to begin a new and exciting chapter of his career."

Brenton, who averaged 8.4 points and 8.5 rebounds as a senior, was a first-team Baltimore Sun All-Metro selection and the 2006-07 Howard County Player of the Year. The Columbia native left Stony Brook as the Seawolves' all-time leading rebounder.
