Mount St. Mary's accepts resignation of basketball coach Robert Burke

Mount St. Mary's has accepted the resignation of men's basketball coach Robert Burke.

"We thank Robert for his service to our players and to the Mount community, and we wish him well," athletic director Lynne Robinson said in a news release. "We will now focus our attention on hiring the best head coach to lead our renowned men's basketball program."

Burke requested to be placed on paid administrative leave in February after conversations with university officials. Mountaineers assistant coach Matt Henry was elevated to interim coach. He led the Mount to a 2-2 record in the team's last four regular-season games.

In less than two season at Mount St. Mary's, Burke compiled a 17-40 record. The Mountaineers finished the 2011-12 season with an 8-21 record, including a 6-12 mark in Northeast Conference play.
