Mount St. Mary's freshman Miles Wilson transfers to Miami

Miles Wilson (Mount Saint Joseph), a freshman who helped lead Mount St. Mary's to the NCAA Tournament, has transferred to the University of Miami. He made the announcement on Twitter Thursday night.

Wilson averaged 11.8 points per game as the Mount swept the NEC regular-season and tournament titles, won a First Four NCAA tournament game and hung with No. 1 seed Villanova for a half.

A 6-foot-5 guard, Wilson scored 22 points and seven rebounds against the defending national champion Wildcats. In the First Four game in Dayton, he scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the win over New Orleans.

Miami, No. 8 seed, lost to No. 9 seed Michigan State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, 78-58, finishing the season 21-12 overall and 10-8 in the ACC.

But Wilson became the third Baltimore-area player who decided to leave the Mountaineers program this offseason, announcing in early May that he was transferring.

"The past year at Mount Saint Mary's has been special," Wilson wrote in a tweet announcing his transfer. "I want to thank Coach [Jamion] Christian and the Men's Basketball staff for their support and guidance this year, I truly appreciate it. I have made lifelong friendships and I wish my teammates the bst, it was an honor to play along side you and make history this season."

Sophomore guard Elijah Long (John Carroll), the first Mount player to be named first-team All-Northeast Conference in seven years, transferred to Texas in May.

Guard Randy Miller Jr. (Mount Saint Joseph), who played sparingly for the Mountaineers in his freshman season, also is headed out of Emmitsburg, reportedly transferring to Moberly Area Community College (Mo.).
