Fourth-seeded Coppin State downed No. 13 seed Norfolk State, 78-54, in a first-round game in the Mid-Eastern Athleteic Conference tournament, held in Norfolk, Va.

The Eagles (14-15) have won a MEAC tournament game in six consecutive seasons. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Eagles, who will face Morgan State on Thursday in the quarterfinals.


Amber Griffin led four Coppin State players in double figures with 19 points. The Spartans (3-24) were led by Kiara Phillips' 15 points.

No. 5 Morgan State 52, No. 12 North Carolina Central 42: Zuri White had 17 points and 14 rebounds to propel the Bears (13-16) in their MEAC tournament first-round game.

Morgan State forced 16 turnovers and held the Eagles (5-23) to 35.6 percent shooting from the floor.

No. 11 Howard 68, No. 6 UMES 51: The Bison (7-23) outscored the Hawks 41-23 in the second half to pull off the first upset of the MEAC tournament.

Sophomore guard Moengaroa Subritzky had 22 points for UMES, which ended its season at 12-17.
