Varsity roundup: No. 1 McDonogh boys soccer rallies to beat Spalding, 3-2

The No. 14 Archbishop Spalding boys soccer team put together a 2-0 run to take a one-goal lead in the second half, but visiting top-ranked McDonogh answered with a 2-0 run of its own and won, 3-2, Friday.

The Eagles stayed perfect at 11-0, and the Cavaliers fell to 5-5-1.

The teams traded goals in the first half. Spalding broke the 1-all halftime deadlock when Nick Asbeck scored on an assist from Hunter Alchin in the 44th minute.

McDonogh's Connor Smith scored in the 64th minute, and Noah Wax had the game-winner assisted by Nicolas Brown in the 66th minute.

The two goals are the most the Eagles defense has allowed this season.

No. 3 Loyola Blakefield 6, John Carroll 1: Grant Robinson scored twice to power the Dons (7-2) past the host Patriots (3-7).

Loyola has won its past two games. Jack Dengler had John Carroll's lone goal.

No. 15 Severn 3, St. Mary's 0: The host Admirals (8-1) scored all their goals in the second half to beat the Saints (1-7).

Severn outshot St. Mary's 26-4 and had a 9-1 advantage in corners.

Girls soccer

No. 10 Severn 2, Fallston 1:The host Admirals (10-3) scored twice in the opening half and held on to beat the Cougars (7-3).

Eddie Shoop and Michele Money scored one each for Severn.
