France, Argentina look to clinch top seeds in World Cup Groups E and F

Yesterday in one sentence: Luis Suarez really bit someone again, England bored us again, Greece went through on a soft late penalty and there might not be a more enjoyable team in the tournament than Colombia.

What’s on tap: Bosnia and Herzegovina vs. Iran, noon, ESPN2; Nigeria vs. Argentina, noon, ESPN; Ecuador vs. France, 4 p.m., ESPN; Honduras vs. Switzerland, 4 p.m., ESPN2.

What you’ll see: In Group F, Argentina has already advanced and has a pretty straightforward path to the top spot in the group. A point against a plucky Nigerian side puts Argentina top of the group, and the good news for the Argentines is this game might have a little more flow to it than the slog against Iran.

Nigeria could be in trouble with a loss and an Iran win, though Iran winning by two (or winning at all) seems unlikely given how Carlos Queiroz has the Iranians playing. The Bosnians will be looking to salvage its first point in a disappointing tournament.

None of the four teams in the late set of games are mathematically eliminated, though Honduras would have to beat Switzerland by a lot to go through. France, on the other hand, could be matched with six points but is unlikely to give up its big margin in goal differential (plus-six).

France has been one of the more impressive teams in the entire tournament, which is bad news for Ecuador, which could be jumped and eliminated with a loss and a Switzerland win. The Swiss side was emasculated by France when those two sides met last week, but with it all on the line, one of the best qualifiers from Europe had better come through.
