Bass and Brewington guided the Wildecats throughout a strong spring season in which they won the Howard County and region meets before taking second in Class 3A at the state championship meet.
Wilde Lake got key performances throughout from David Eisenhauer, Samuel Enomanna and others to help pile up points. The coaches used their team's depth well.
"We had a lot of depth that we hadn't had in the past," Bass said. "The kids just did a good job. [State champion] Long Reach had too much star power. We picked up points in a lot of places."
Wilde Lake was able to score in both track and field events, and stayed close to the lead at the state championship meet until the Lightning pulled away late.
