The infielder was the 264th overall selection in the draft and the ninth selection in the round.
Metzler just completed his junior year at the University of South Carolina Aiken, where he finished the year with a .365 batting average, four home runs, 42 RBIs and 16 stolen bases in 53 games.
An All-Metro first-team selection after his senior season at Spalding, Metzler batted .515 and led the team with 15 stolen bases. He was also named to the Brooks Robinson All-Star team that year.
After graduating from Spalding in 2011 -- a year in which he was voted the team’s MVP -- Metzler played for one year at Siena College before transfering to USC Aiken.
He started all 55 games in his sophomore year for the Pacers at second base. That season, he was a Peach Belt Conference All-Conference first-team selection and a Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region first-team selection.
Although he was drafted as a second baseman, Metzler has also played some games at shortstop for the Pacers.
