Maryland's Taylor Cummings, Brooke Griffin, Kelly McPartland and Megan Douty, along with Johns Hopkins' Taylor D'Amore and three others with local ties, were named first-team All-Americans on Tuesday by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association.
Sophomore midfielder Cummings, a McDonogh graduate and Tewaaraton Award finalist, is on the first team for a second year, while junior attacker Griffin (South River), junior midfielder McPartland and junior defender Douty, also a Tewaaraton finalist, are first-time All-Americans. D'Amore, a senior midfielder, was a second-team selection last season.
The No. 1 Terps landed six players on the three Division I All-America teams, with senior midfielder Beth Glaros (Wilde Lake) on second team and sophomore defender Alice Mercer (Century) on the third team.
Also named to the first team: Duke senior defender Taylor Virden (McDonogh), Notre Dame senior defender Margaret Smith (McDonogh) and Virginia senior goalie Liz Colgan (Notre Dame Prep).
In addition to D'Amore, the Blue Jays also had senior midfielder Sammy Cermak on third team.
Loyola senior midfielder Marlee Paton made the second team, with Greyhounds junior attacker Annie Thomas (John Carroll), junior midfielder Taryn VanThof and sophomore defender Maddy Lesher on the third team.
Also chosen to the All-America second team were Boston University junior attacker Covie Stanwick (Notre Dame Prep) and Denver junior attacker Jill Remenapp (Century).
Other locals named to the third team: Virginia junior attacker Liza Blue (Garrison Forest), Louisville junior attacker Faye Brust (John Carroll), Princeton junior attacker Erin McMunn (Winters Mill), Penn State midfielder Madison Cyr (Winters Mill) and Louisville senior defender Monica Negron (Patterson Mill).
Rounding out the first team: Louisville senior attacker Nikki Boltja, North Carolina senior attacker Abbey Friend, Syracuse senior attacker Alyssa Murray, Syracuse sophomore midfielder Kayla Treanor, Florida junior midfielder Shannon Gilroy, Boston College junior midfielder Mikaela Rix, Penn junior defender Meg Markham and North Carolina senior defender Sloane Serpe.
The players will be honored at the IWLCA All-American banquet on June 7 in King of Prussia, Pa.
