Roundup: Calvert Hall junior Delp pitches perfect game

Nick Delp turned in a flawless baseball performance Wednesday for No. 3 Calvert Hall.

The junior threw a perfect game, striking out five, as the host Cardinals (21-6) defeated No. 15 Mount St. Joseph, 5-0, in a Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference tournament game.

The Gaels (13-14) were eliminated. Calvert Hall scored single runs in the first two innings and three in the third. The Cardinals, who lost, 9-3, Monday to No. 8 Archbishop Curley, must face the host Friars on Friday at 4 p.m., with the winner advancing to the championship against No.2 Archbishop Spalding on Sunday at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen.

No. 5 Chesapeake-AA 6, Severna Park 0: Right-hander Chris Ruszin (8-0) struck out seven for the win as the host Bayhawks (20-2) beat the Falcons (11-10) in a Class 4A East section final.

No. 6 North Harford 5, C. Milton Wright 0: Brian Shaffer pitched a three-hitter as the host Hawks (20-2) beat the Mustangs in a Class 3A North section final.

North Harford travels to Franklin for Friday's regional championship.

No. 11 Franklin 2, Westminster 0: Winner Ross Silver (3-0) worked seven innings and struck out two as the host Indians (18-2) beat the Owls in a Class 3A North section final.

North Point 3, No. 14 South River 1: Michael Stewart kept the Seahawks (14-7) off balance, scattering eight hits over seven innings to secure the win for the host Eagles in a Class 4A East section final.

Stewart allowed one unearned run, striking out five and walking none. Seahawks pitcher Craig Sheridan, back on the mound after recovering from an injury, allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits, striking out three and walking three. 

The Seahawks could not convert on a leadoff double by Alex Witkowski in the second but pushed their only run across in the third when Eric Sieber lined a single to center, scoring Jake Donaldson.


C. Milton Wright 2, No. 9 North Harford 1: Alexis Lyttle took the loss, giving up two runs on eight hits and striking out seven for the visiting Hawks (14-5) in a Class 3A North section final.

She also scored the only run for North Harford when Kaitlin Horsey (2-for-3) hit an RBI single in the first inning. The Mustangs improved to 16-6.


Girls lacrosse

No. 14 Fallston 14, Southern-AA 7: Caroline English and Kayla Reilly scored four goals each as the host Cougars won the 2A-1A South championship, their fourth regional title.

Anna Rulapaugh of Southern led all scorers with five goals.

Catonsville 10, Bel Air 7: Catonsville scored three unanswered goals late in the second half to beat host Bel Air, 10-7, in the Class 3A-4A South title game.

The Comets' Brianna Spinnato scored five goals and Lauren McDonald added a pair of goals and one assist. Shannon Williams scored three times for the Bobcats and Anna Farley had two goals and an assist.

Comets goalie Savannah Cheuvront made four saves and Bel Air keepers Jamie Bittner and Lucy Laughlin combined for six .
