Coach of the Year

Pikesville has never been a power in girls track, but the Panthers have improved in the last few years under Adam Hittner and his staff.

The depth assembled by the coaches played a big role in Pikesville's winning its first girls indoor track state title. The Panthers got lots of points in lots of places to edge out Manchester Valley for the Class 1A state title.

Senait Weaver was the team's only individual winner — in the 500 — but Pikesville rallied late. The Panthers were able to pull out four top-three finishes that brought in enough points for the championship.

Pikesville also was impressive in the Class 1A Central region meet before the states, posting 140 points to beat New Town by 66.

"They worked hard all winter," Hittner said. "They were really a team."
