Loyola Maryland overcame a cold shooting spell to start the second half in its home opener and defeated Fairfield, 59-52, on Saturday night behind 20 points from senior guard Dylon Cormier (Cardinal Gibbons).
Cormier was the only Greyhound who scored in double figures. The next-highest was eight points by junior guard R.J. Williams, including 6-for-6 at the free-throw line.
Loyola started the second half missing its first 13 field-goal attempts. The Stags (1-1) responded, going on a 10-1 run to take their first lead of the game at 37-36 with 11:49 left.
Cormier broke the cold spell with a basket after an offensive rebound with 8:51 remaining to put Loyola ahead 38-37.
The Greyhounds (3-0) went on a 12-3 run to separate themselves late in the game. Jarred Jones' layup capped the run to give Loyola a 52-44 lead with 1:15 remaining.
Navy 68, Binghamton 50: After a cold-shooting first half, the Midshipmen found their range in the second half to pull away for a victory over host Binghamton (1-3).
Navy (2-2), which led 31-26 at halftime, made four of its first six shots to start the second half to take a double-digit lead, which it would keep the rest of the game.
Georgia Regents 87, Bowie State 86, OT: Bulldog Zafir Williams missed a free throw to tie the game and Jaguar Harold Doby made his shot from the line with five seconds left to lead Georgia Regents (3-1) to an overtime victory over Bowie State (1-4).
Bethany 79, Frostburg State 69: The visiting Bison (1-0) had four players score in double figures and outscored the Bobcats (0-1) by 39-29 in the second half to win.
Wesley 90, Johns Hopkins 76: The Wolverines (2-0), behind David Langan's 26 points on 11-for-11 shooting and nine rebounds, dominated the Blue Jays (1-1) to win the Blue Jay Invitational.
Shenandoah 76, Hood 71: Trailing 67-61 with 4:51 left, the Hornets (2-0) outscored the Blazers (1-1) by 15-4 in the final minutes, including two free throws by Dante Seraile with seven seconds left, to win the Shenandoah Tournament final.
McDaniel 57, Methodist 51: The Monarchs (0-2) led 48-47 with 3:15 left, but the Green Terror (1-1) scored the next six points to win the Shenandoah Tournament consolation game in Winchester, Va.
Mount St. Mary's 86, IPFW 77: Senior guard Sydney Henderson became the 26th Mount player to score 1,000 career points in a consolation-round victory in the Preseason WNIT at Loyola Chicago.
Henderson, who scored a team-high 25 on the night for the Mount (1-3), is the fourth player coached by Bryan Whitten to score 1,000 points for the Mount, joining Tiffany Grant, Brianna Gauthier and Mary Dunn.
She is also the first 1,000 point scorer since Dunn, who accomplished the feat Jan. 1, 2011, and the 20th player to reach the 1,000-point mark since the Mount joined Division I in 1988-89.
IPFW fell to 0-4.
Towson 63, Manhattan 43: The Jaspers (1-1) took an early 16-3 lead, but the host Tigers (1-2) rallied to take a 28-21 halftime lead en route to a victory behind Tanisha McTiller's 15 points and 12 rebounds.
UMES 68, UMBC 45: Shawnee Sweeney made seven of her team's 12 3-pointers for a game-high 22 points, including seven straight to open a second half lead, as the Hawks (1-2) beat the host Retrievers (1-2).
Freshmen Sara Tarbert and Amanda Hagaman combined for 25 points and 17 rebounds for UMBC.
Salisbury 68, Johns Hopkins 58: Junior guard Anna Hackett scored 27 points, including 18 in the second half, to lead the Sea Gulls (1-0) over the host Blue Jays (0-1) in the Johns Hopkins Tournament.
Salisbury erased an eight-point halftime deficit to take a 42-41 lead. That was as close as Hopkins would get in the second half, as Hackett scored seven points in a 16-5 Salisbury run to take a 56-46 lead.
With 1:17 left, The Blue Jays cut the lead to six, 62-56, but a 3-pointer by junior guard Courtney McManus put the game out of reach. The Sea Gulls outscored Hopkins 41-23 in the second half.
McDaniel 60, Wilkes 57, OT: Chelsea Brown missed a free throw to tie the game at 58 with 24 seconds left for the Colonels (1-1), and Steph Perez made her two from the line to give the Green Terror (2-0) the overtime win in the McDaniel Tip-Off Tournament championship.
College of New Rochelle 83, Notre Dame (Md.) 46: The Gators (0-1) made just 13 of 64 field-goal attempts (20.3 percent) to fall to the Blue Angels (1-0) in the Bryn Mawr Tip-Off Tournament in Byrn Mawr, Pa.
Hollins 70, Hood 59: Hollins (1-1) had a 37-5 edge in bench points over the Blazers (0-2) and won the Days Inn Tournament consolation game in Carlisle, Pa.
Emmanuel 62, Stevenson 52: The Saints (1-0) hit 27 of 37 free throws and outscored the visiting Mustangs (0-1) by 12 in the second half to win.
Stevenson led 38-37 with 12:34 left, but Emmanuel scored 14 of the next 16 points to take a 51-40 lead it would not relinquish.
Scranton 79, Washington College 49: The Royals (1-1) scored 42 in the first half to beat the Shorewomen (0-2) in the Gwynedd Mercy Tip-Off Tournament consolation game in Gwynedd Valley, Pa.
Scranton led 24-18 and outscored Washington College 18-7 the rest of the half to take a 42-25 halftime lead. Guard Emily Hubley scored 20 points for the Shorewomen.
William Paterson 86, Frostburg State 65: Junior Simone Wise scored a game-high 25 points, but the Bobcats (0-2) fell to the Pioneers (1-1) in the consolation game of the 11th Annual Jim Crawley Tournament in Frostburg.
Goucher 74, Mary Baldwin 56: The Gophers scored 46 second-half points to blow out the Fighting Squirrels (0-2) in the consolation game of the McDaniel Tip-Off Tournament in Westminster.
With the game tied at 28, Goucher (1-1) went on a 24-9 run early in the second half to take a commanding 52-37 lead. Monique Welch led the Gophers with 19 points on 6-for-16 shooting.
Farmingdale State 83, St. Mary's 79: Junior Matti Vagnoni scored a career-high 21 points, but the Seahawks (0-2) fell to the Rams (1-1) in the consolation game of the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey Tip-Off Tournament.
