Oni returns to Mercy as visitor

Albert Oni spent eight seasons as head coach for the Mercy girls soccer team, leading the Magic to the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference title game in 2009 on his way to earning All-Metro Coach of the Year honors that season.

He is expected to return to Mercy (2-4-2) with a different view on Thursday, as the first-year coach for Severn (5-5). Game time is set for 4 p.m.

"Mercy gave me a platform to get my career started and I'll always be grateful. Now, I'm at Severn and excited about the opportunity I've been given here," Oni said. "It’s going to be different – that was my field for eight years, and now I'm coming back as a visitor. I’m excited. It'll be more than just a game, because I still feel very connected with the school and community."
